Nuclear: these cracks of a few millimeters that make EDF falter

These are cracks that must lead the collapse of EDF’s nuclear electricity production in 2022, and in passing a shortfall of 11 billion euros in gross operating surplus (Ebitda) for the group. But, if their very spectacular impact on the group’s accounts, these defects are invisible to the naked eye…

“These cracks are very small, we are talking regarding millimeters and some can only be seen under a microscope. At no time are we considering a risk of sudden rupture” of the circuits on which these cracks were identified, recalls Cédric Lewandowski, director of EDF’s nuclear and thermal park.
