Number of warships in Taiwan Strait ‘sharply reduced’, source says

TAIPEI (Archyde.com) – No more than 10 Chinese and Taiwanese warships were cruising near the center line of the Taiwan Strait on Thursday afternoon, a source briefed on the situation said.

The number of buildings in the area has “significantly reduced” compared to previous days, the source commented.

Several Chinese navy ships have continued missions off the east coast of Taiwan and near Japan’s Yonaguni Island, the source said.

Chinese fighter jets briefly crossed the unofficial dividing line between Taiwan and mainland China on Thursday, she added.

The Chinese army said on Wednesday it had “successfully” completed its military maneuvers around Taiwan, which Beijing considers an integral part of Chinese territory.

China conducted the large-scale air and naval exercises to protest the visit to the island last week by Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.
