DEPUTY Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nurul Ghufron was advised to attend an ethics trial if he felt that providing assistance in the transfer process at the Ministry of Agriculture did not violate the rules. His absence and clarification in the media some time ago was considered a wrong step.

“Even though that’s where (the ethics trial) he can defend himself if he feels right,” said former Corruption Eradication Commission investigator Yudi Purnomo Harahap in a written statement, Saturday (4/5).

Yudi said that the place for Ghufron’s clarification was actually at the ethics trial. His attitude in giving statements to the public is considered to have created even more polemics regarding the agency trial that is currently being held.

“As deputy chairman of the Corruption Eradication Committee, he should set an example in attending ethics trials. “Nurul Ghufron’s absence seems to underestimate the role of Dewas in maintaining the ethics of KPK leaders and employees,” said Yudi.

Ghufron’s absence was also asked to be addressed by the KPK Council. It is hoped that this decision will be taken into consideration.

“(Regarding) the absence of (Ghufron) Dewas must be a note for Dewas regarding Nurul Ghufron’s behavior,” said Yudi.

The IM57+ Institute also highlighted Ghufron’s attitude in being absent from the ethics trial, however, he provided clarification in the mass media. The deputy chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is considered to be panicking.

“This statement shows that Nurul Ghufron was panicking and did not directly deny his abuse of authority,” said IM57+ Institute Chair M Praswad Nugraha.

Ghufron actually doesn’t need to worry about the timing of the report if he doesn’t feel guilty. The former academic’s attitude is considered unjustified.

“Don’t let us get caught up in discourse that makes it seem like Ghufron’s actions are something legitimate so we can focus on substance rather than procedure,” said Praswad.

On the other hand, Nurul Ghufron chose to cover his ears when accused by many parties of undermining the KPK Council by not attending the ethics trial on the pretext that there was a lawsuit at the PTUN. The former academic considered his attitude to be the highest respect for the members of the monitoring agency.

“Make no mistake, in fact this is my highest respect to the Dewas who have formed the Dewas regulations so that they are upheld and obeyed by me and the Dewas as well, don’t let the Dewas forget that they once formed regulations,” said Ghufron.

Ghufron believes that the Corruption Eradication Commission Council has tried an ethical case that has expired. Therefore, a lawsuit at the PTUN is deemed necessary.

“So the Dewas itself regulates in Perdewas Number 4/2021 concerning procedures for enforcing the code of ethics, in Article 23 it regulates the expiry date for reports and findings of alleged violations of the code of ethics, namely one year from the time it occurs or becomes known,” said Ghufron.
