NVIDIA Rolls Out Update for Discord Performance Bug

GeForce RTX

For users whose game performance is impacted when Discord is running in the background, NVIDIA has released an app profile update that will automatically download the next time you log in to your computer.

This strange bug was first discovered on Reddit. When users use NVIDIA RTX 30 series graphics cards (such as 3080 or 3060 Ti, etc.), and open Discord in the background, the graphics card will limit the frequency of memory, and sometimes can reduce Up to 200MHz. This doesn’t affect game performance too much, but players who keep an eye on the frame rate can still feel the difference.

According to research on the forum, this bug seems to have appeared around the same time that Discord added support for the AV1 codec recently. However, this codec support is limited to RTX 40 series graphics cards, allowing Discord Nitro users to stream games at 4K / 60fps. However, RTX 40 graphics cards do not seem to be affected by the bug, only RTX 30 will slow down.
