Nvidia would prepare a variant simpler to produce

Nvidia is reportedly working to make its graphics card easier to find in stock and at a closer to normal price.

GeForce RTX 3050: Nvidia would prepare a variant that is easier to produce

In the entry-level graphics card game, Nvidia clearly won a victory with the GeForce RTX 3050 which provides a satisfactory level of performance with the qualities of the RTX range (DLSS, RT, etc.). Unfortunately, this is once again a graphics card that is very hard to find in stock, especially at a decent price. Announced at 279 euros, it is actually found from 470 euros and up to 550 euros, for entry-level.

A variant without trap and easier to produce

Currently, the GeForce RTX 3050 uses an Nvidia GA106 graphics chip, which is also found in the GeForce RTX 3060 and in the mobile versions of the 3050 and 3060. However, as Igor’s Lab indicates, the characteristics chosen by Nvidia for its RTX 3050 are actually perfectly compatible with this should produce the GA107. The chip can integrate the 2560 CUDA cores, 80 Texture Units, 32 ROPs and 20 RT Cores of the GeForce RTX 3050.

Furthermore, Igor notes that the GA106 and GA107 chips are ” pin-compatible ”, that is to say that Nvidia’s partners will be able to place one or the other of the chips without changing a single detail of their graphics card design. The Asus, MSI and other Zotacs will therefore be able to switch from one chip to another without any problem. For Nvidia the interest is in a simplification of the manufacturing process. The GA107 version of the RTX 3050 should also offer lower consumption, at 115W against 130W for the GA106 model.

We don’t know a date for this Nvidia manufacturing change. Hopefully this change will help lower the price of the card and bring it closer to its recommended price.
