The Austrian Circulation Control (ÖAK) has now published objectively comparable figures for podcasts three times – and there has always been a new offer at the top.

In March, ÖAK newcomer “Stories from History” catapulted itself to number 1. The history podcast with Richard Hemmer and Daniel Meßner, who tell each other surprising, forgotten or even extraordinary things from various eras, received around 2.5 million views Downloads.

This is followed by Florian Freistetter’s science podcast “Star Stories” with around 1.2 million downloads. Third place is also a podcast that was shown for the first time: “Couchgehisper” by Leonie Rachel Soyel and Sinah Edhofer (120,000 downloads). The two devote themselves to the topics of relationships, love and sex. “Explain the World to Me” by Andreas Sator follows closely behind with 111,000 downloads. The investigative podcast “The Dark Room” by ex-“profil” journalist Michael Nikbakhsh has around 99,000 downloads.

Several podcasts from Nikbakhsh’s ex-employer are also new on board the measurement. “Unbelievable” from the news magazine “profil” recorded around 46,000 downloads, “On the Question of the Nation” around 34,000 downloads and “Beware, hot!” approx. 2,000 downloads.

The ÖAK also reports figures for newsletters. The “Falstaff Wein” newsletter is still at the top with 126,250 subscribers. It has an open rate of 35 percent. The newsletter “MeinBezirk.at” from RegionalMedien Austria (RMA) has 103,784 subscribers (32 percent open rate). This is used to send out the weekly regional editions of the local media. Falstaff Verlag is again in third place with “Falstaff Austria” (99,877 subscribers, 38 percent open rate).
