RIYADH: The authorities requested Muslims in Saudi Arabia to observe the new moon on Sunday evening. Dhul Hajj moonrise is required to be observed to calculate the dates of the beginning of the Hajj pilgrimage and the Feast of Sacrifice.

It is suggested that those who can see the birth of the month with their naked eyes or with the help of binoculars should come to the nearest court and testify about it. The Supreme Court, in a notification released through the Saudi Press Agency, also asked those who are interested and capable of observing the new moon to become members of the committees formed for this purpose in their respective areas.

Moon birth observation units in other countries including the UAE will also meet on Sunday evening. Sacrifice holidays in the countries will be decided by the decision of this meeting. Public sector holidays in the UAE will start on June 27 if the new moon is visible on Sunday. In that case, six days leave will be taken including weekend holidays. But if the new moon falls on June 19, then the holidays will start on June 28. In that case, the festive holiday of the public sector will be four days.
