An 80-year-old woman evacuated to the hospital did not survive, while her residence in the Sainte-Dorothée district, in Laval, was ravaged by a fire on Monday evening.
He was pronounced dead by doctors later that night, according to a spokesperson for the Laval Fire Department.

Of accidental origin, the fire started after a smoking article was forgotten in the living room of the single-family house located on Mimosa Street.
Even if the firefighters were able to control the flames, the damage caused to the residence is considerable and could be around $40,000.

The victim was found alone and inanimate inside his burning residence, before being transported in critical condition to a hospital center where he was declared dead.
Firefighters found that the smoke alarm was not working.
