Square Enix will launch native Nintendo Switch 2 versions of Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II on October 1, 2026. These releases feature upgraded resolution and frame rates but require a full repurchase, as no free upgrades or save-file transfers from the original Switch hardware are supported.
The Cost of Fidelity: Pricing and the Game Key Card Pivot
Each title is priced at 59,99 €. However, the bundle offers a slight reprieve at 74,99 €.
Square Enix is utilizing a “game key card” format. This is a physical edition that will include both games.
- Individual Game Price: 59,99 €
- Bundle Price: 74,99 €
- Release Date: October 1, 2026
- Format: Digital eShop & Physical Game Key Card
It’s a bold move.
Octopath Traveler 0: Expanding the Prequel Lore
While the legacy titles are moving to new hardware, the series’ newest entry, Octopath Traveler 0, is staying focused on content expansion. Square Enix confirmed a major update arriving later this year. The centerpiece of this update is the addition of a “mysterious character,” widely speculated to be Elliot from The Adventures of Elliot.

Beyond the character roster, the update targets the “Monster Arena,” introducing a new enemy. Octopath Traveler 0 has already shifted the series’ DNA by allowing players to create their own protagonist and rebuild their home, moving away from the rigid, pre-defined character arcs of the previous games.
