Samsung has made its first GDDR7 memory chips official, which promise to significantly increase the performance of future generations of graphics cards for gaming, artificial intelligence tasks and much more.

This Tuesday (26), two GDDR7 memory modules were listed on the Samsung website. The “K4VAF325ZC-SC32” and “K4VAF325ZC-SC28” models appeared on the South Korean official page with speeds of 32 Gbps and 28 Gbps, respectively.

It is expected that the first wave of video cards with GDDR7 memory will use the 28 Gbps versions, which feature reduced voltage, and only a few very high-performance models will use the 32 Gbps version. One of the products that should adopt the standard with higher data transfer rates is NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090.

Both will represent a huge improvement over GDDR6, which peaks at 24 Gbps — although few graphics cards actually surpass the 22.5 Gbps mark.

The brand’s website points out that the modules listed are still in the sampling phase with partner manufacturers, therefore, mass production should only begin in the coming months. The expectation is that products based on GDDR7 memories will begin to appear on the market at the end of 2024, becoming more common in 2025.

Samsung’s GDDR7 memory chips will have a density of 16 Gb, allowing each module to have 2 GB of VRAM. This specification reiterates that graphics cards with the new standard will be capable of delivering up to 32 GB of VRAM with a bandwidth of 2,048 GB/s in the 32 Gbps versions or 1,792 GB/s in the 28 Gbps version.

It is worth remembering that, recently, Samsung displayed its GDDR7 memories of up to 32 Gbps during NVIDIA’s GTC event, highlighting advantages such as a 20% jump in energy efficiency and a 50% increase in data transmission in the same cycle thanks to use of Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM3).
