Following the agency Avtostat, which recently published statistics of sales of new cars for the last month, the data for June were published by the Association of European Businesses (AEB). They reflect shipments of new cars to the dealer network, and light commercial vehicles are also counted along with cars. Alas, the results of the AEB calculations turned out to be even sadder: in June, only 27,761 new cars found buyers, that is, the market fell by 82% compared to the results for the same period last year. At the same time, data are given for the first half of 2022: 370,000 cars have been sold in Russia since the beginning of the year, which is 57.5% less than in the first six months of 2021.
A couple of months ago, the shipment statistics were less of a failure than the registration statistics. But the disposition that changed in May suggests that manufacturers’ warehouses are gradually emptying: dealers will soon have nothing to ship. However, at the current level of demand, cars from dealer stocks may be enough until the end of the year. Due to the drop in sales since the beginning of spring, the results of the first half of the year, compared to the same period in 2021, are also, frankly, disappointing: almost all brands on the market went into the red (except for Exeed, as well as Isuzu, which was temporarily helped by with sales of the recently debuted SUV MU-X), but Chinese companies and manufacturers of light commercial vehicles (GAZ is already in the top three!) showed a slower decline. Except perhaps for Ford, due to the fact that Transit flew out of the top five cargo trucks.
Forecasts for the second half of 2022 are not given in the AEB. The further dynamics of the market will mainly depend on the volume of cars produced at Russian factories – now, by and large, only Chinese companies are importing into our country, which are still rising in the ranking of popular manufacturers, while the rest continue to gradually sell cars from stocks.
