The Ukrainian Football Federation has decided to submit a request to the International Federation of the Game “FIFA” to exclude the Iranian national team from the World Cup 2022, which will start in Qatar on November 20.
A statement from the Ukrainian Football Federation confirmed on Monday that the Executive Committee wanted Iran’s national team to be excluded from the tournament “due to Iran’s possible involvement in the Russo-Ukrainian war.”
The Russian national team was excluded from international tournaments by FIFA and the European Football Association “UEFA”, while the Ukraine team was eliminated from the qualifying round for the World Cup by losing at the hands of the Wales team.
The statement of the Ukrainian Football Association stated that the Executive Committee decided to submit a request to FIFA to exclude Iran from the World Cup, without referring to the possibility of replacing it with the Ukraine national team in the World Cup.
The statement indicated: Taking into account media information about the systematic violations of human rights in Iran, which may violate the principles and standards of the FIFA Statute, as well as the UN Security Council resolution on imposing sanctions against Iran and the possible involvement of Iran in the current war, we have decided to apply to FIFA to consider Exclusion of the Iranian national team from the 2022 World Cup.
