ATHENS, Ohio — A last-second goal led Ohio to tie 1-1 with Central Michigan Thursday afternoon at Chessa Field.

Senior Forward Shae Robertson (Lexington, Ky.) nodded the ball in for the Bobcats with help from junior defender Quintin Tostevin (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) in the final 30 seconds of the match.

The second half went well for Ohio. It gained energy and increased its pressure on Central Michigan. With three minutes to go in the match, Ohio peppered Central Michigan and did not relent its offensive attack. Ohio kept the ball in Central Michigan’s half of the field and it led to its first goal at home since Aug. 24.

The second half came in contrast to the first. Ohio struggled to find its feet in the first half and it struggled on offense. All of its shots fell straight into redshirt junior Allie LaPoint’s arms in the middle of the net. Ohio was unable to work around the keeper, who recorded seven saves.

The Chippewas took a hold of the match in the 26th minute. Redshirt junior Megan Scholten knocked a goal into the bottom of the net seconds after she was subbed in.

After that, Ohio’s defense locked in to keep the ball away from Central Michigan. Ohio latched on to maintain possession for the majority of the second half and helped keep Central Michigan on its toes. Central Michigan did not have a single shot in the second half.

The Bobcats had several chances to score and even held the advantage in corner kicks on Thursday. They finished the match with eight compared to the Chippewas’ one. However, the Bobcats could not find their way onto the board, despite several close attempts.

Despite the lone goal, Central Michigan disrupted Ohio’s offensive efforts with ease. It met Ohio in all spaces of the pitch and cut off all of Ohio’s long passes. Central Michigan eliminated almost all of Ohio’s chances in the box. Ohio ended the match with 15 shots on goal while Central Michigan had six.

Although Ohio did not earn the win, it earned confidence for its upcoming match against Ball State. The two will face off on Oct. 15 at the Soccer Field at Briner Sports Complex in Muncie, Indiana.
