Ohio Softball’s Miller, Lieving and Wilson Earn All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND – Ohio softball’s redshirt sophomore Skipp Miller and freshmen Mikie Lieving and Izzie Wilson earned Mid-American Conference postseason honors, the league announced today (May 7). Miller was named First Team All-MAC, while Lieving and Wilson earned a spot on the All-MAC Second Team. Lieving also earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team.

For the second-straight year, Miller (Bradford, Ohio) earned a spot on the All-MAC First Team. Miller picked up right where she left off last season. In MAC play, Miller has appeared in 19 games, while making 13 starts, earning 12 complete games. She recorded a 10-6 mark in conference play, with two shutouts and two saves. In 104.2 innings, Miller had a 2.34 ERA and allowed 35 earned runs, while walking 35 and striking out 65. Opponents recorded a .259 batting average against her. While fielding her position, Miller had only recorded two errors, with a .905 fielding percentage, 21 catches, two put outs and 17 assists. Miller’s first shutout in conference play came on March 17 at Ball State, where she tossed seven scoreless innings on five hits with two strikeouts in the 7-0 win. Her latest shutout came on April 30 against Akron, pitching seven shutout innings in a 5-0 win, allowing seven hits, one walk and four strikeouts. Miller also added closing to her tools, picking up two saves in MAC play, one against Buffalo on April 26 where she tossed one inning in a 4-1 win, the other on April 30 in a two-run game against Akron. Miller recorded at least six strikeouts three times in MAC play and at least five or more in six games. In the conference, Miller finished the regular season fourth in ERA, third in complete games, second in innings pitched and fifth in strikeouts.

Lieving (New Haven, W. Va.) earned a spot on the All-MAC Second Team and All-Freshman Team. Lieving made a mark in her first season in the circle for the Bobcats. In 11 appearances in MAC play, Lieving went 6-1 with a 2.49 ERA. In 56.1 innings, Lieving had three complete games and one shutout. She allowed 20 earned runs, walked 13 and struck out 26 batters that she’s faced. In MAC play, she only allowed one home run, while opponents hit.306 off her. While fielding her position, Lieving recorded two errors for a .800 fielding percentage, while recording 10 catches and eight assists. Lieving’s one shutout in MAC play came on April 16 at Toledo, where she pitched seven scoreless innings in the 3-0 win. Lieving tied her career high six strikeouts on April 30 against Akron and struck out five in Ohio’s 4-1 win over CMU on March 29.

Wilson (Delaware, Ohio) earned a spot on the All-MAC Second Team. Wilson made an impact in her first season as a Bobcat. The outfielder played and started all 26 MAC games in the outfield, hitting .347 with 26 hits in 75 at bats. She’s recorded five doubles, one home run, 10 RBI and scored 10 runs. She had a .453 slugging percentage, drew four walks, and had a .375 on base percentage. In the outfield, Wilson had a .939 fielding percentage, with two errors, 29 putouts and two assists. Wilson recorded a hit in 10 out of her last 12 MAC games. In conference play, she’s recorded seven multi-hit games and recorded three-RBI against NIU on April 4. She also went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI against Bowling Green on May 5.

Miller, Lieving, Wilson and the rest of the Ohio softball team open play at the 2024 MAC Tournament this week. The Bobcats enter the week as the second seed, earning a first-round bye. Ohio’s tournament begins on Thursday, May 9 at 2:30 p.m. at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
