Oil prices rise before the OPEC + meeting

NEW YORK, Jan. 3, 2022 (Xinhua) Oil prices rose on Monday as investors awaited a key meeting of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies, the group known as OPEC+.

The price of West Texas Intermediate crude for February delivery rose 87 cents, or 1.2 percent, to settle at 76.08 US dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude for March delivery rose $1.2, or 1.5 percent, to close at $78.98 a barrel on the London ICE Futures Exchange.

The OPEC + group is scheduled to meet today (Tuesday) via video conference, as the oil alliance is expected to decide whether to continue to increase production in February.
