Oklahoma Governor Kevin Still signed a law banning all gender change procedures for minors. This measure includes surgeries and hormone therapies.
With this law, all state health workers who apply any of these procedures to a person under the age of 18 are committing a crime.
16 states ban gender reassignment surgeries
“Last year, I called for a statewide ban on all irreversible gender transition surgeries and hormone therapy in minors, so I’m delighted to sign this into law today and protect our children.” he pointed Stay este lunes.
The law signed in Oklahoma adds to a wave of similar measures that have been approved in most of the red states in the country.
In the last two years, 16 states have passed laws restricting or prohibiting gender reassignment surgeries for minors. Those states include Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakora, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, South Dakota, and West Virginia.
In Alabama and Arkansas there are ongoing legal proceedings that have blocked the enforcement of these laws. In Texas, a judge partially blocked Gov. Gregg Abbott’s order asking authorities to investigate cases of gender reassigned children as child abuse. Missouri is the only state in the United States that has limited these procedures for both children and adults. However, the decision has been blocked by a federal judge.

Take “any necessary legal action”
In Oklahoma, the American Civil Liberties Union along with other organizations that protect civil rights have declared their willingness to take “any legal action necessary” to prevent the law signed by Stitt from being carried out.
Democratic leaders opposed to these laws argue that the decision to reassign a child’s gender should be left to the child with the support of their parents or guardians.
