On Thursday, Viktoria Wolffhardt made it into the semi-finals of the kayak singles at the World Whitewater Canoeing Championships in Augsburg. She took her second chance with second place. The two-time former world champion Corinna Kuhnle, on the other hand, was eliminated in the preliminary heat. The Lower Austrian missed the promotion places in both qualifying runs, in the second heat by two places or 0.28 seconds.
In the men’s race, Mario Leitner progressed on the first attempt as 23rd, Felix Oschmautz proved his class with a clear best time in the second heat. For the 23-year-old from Carinthia it is regarding his first World Championships medal in the general class following winning U23 World Championships silver in Ivrea, Italy three weeks ago. Austria’s youngster Paul Preisl was eliminated. The semi-finals and finals in kayak singles will be held on Saturday, the heats in canoe singles with Wolffhardt on Friday.
