Olaf Scholz to Unicredit: “Unfriendly attack” – ECB must decide on increase – Banks

2024-09-24 10:23:50

Unicredit has significantly increased the pressure in the merger poker for Commerzbank. As reported, the Italians have secured the option of increasing their share in Commerzbank from nine to 21.5 percent via derivatives. If this succeeds, there will be an option to increase it to 29.9 percent. The European Central Bank (ECB) must decide on this plan. It has 60 days to do so. This period can be extended to a maximum of 90 days. If the share reaches 30 percent, Unicredit would have to make a takeover offer for the remaining shares in Commerzbank.
