Al-Marsad Newspaper: A recent medical study revealed that olive oil preserves memory and reduces the chances of death from dementia.

Dementia protection

The study, which reviewed its results at the annual meeting of the American Dietetic Association in Boston, found that those who ate more than half a tablespoon of olive oil per day were 28 percent less likely to die of dementia.

Commenting on the study, Connie Dickmann, a nutrition consultant at St. Louis Hospital, said: “Omega-3 fatty acids are known to provide anti-inflammatory benefits, and olive oil is a good source of these acids,” according to the “UPI” news agency.

Other benefits

“A diet rich in olive oil can reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke, perhaps by helping to improve blood pressure, cholesterol and blood vessel function,” Diekmann added.

“What’s good for the heart is also good for the brain, and cardiovascular health reduces the risk of dementia,” she added.
