Born in 1980 in Senegal, the artist Omar Victor Diop stands out for his work which combines the visual arts, fashion and photographic portraiture.
Today he joins forces with Lee Shulman of The Anonymous Project for a new photographic form that plays with the reader’s eye and representations.
In vintage Lee Shulman Polaroids dating from the 1950s which depict daily scenes of American life, he pastes his own self-portrait of a black man of the 21st century. This collaboration led to a work published by Textuel, Being There .
He invites us to question the lack of diversity that these photographs highlight, and more broadly the capacity of art to offer a new version of history.
