In the pivotal 1957, having made a name for itself in sporty precision timekeeping and proven sophistication, Omega cemented its position as a maker of complete instrument watches by offering a professional collection of three watches. Legends in their own rights.
They include the Seamaster 300, which heralded a new era of underwater discovery; The Railmaster, the first commercially available Omega watch capable of withstanding the impact of a 1000 Gauss magnet; Last but not least, the Speedmaster, a chronograph whose evolution has evolved in a very unusual way.
Although the Speedmaster was originally designed for motorsports, it was destined to fly, becoming the first watch to be worn in space and on the moon, hence the nickname Moonwatch, and played a key role in all of NASA’s lunar missions, including that historic watch. In addition to pioneering space exploration with NASA, Omega has continued to expand to include a variety of custom watches, including the Speedmaster, Moonwatch, Annual Series, Dark Side of the Moon, and more. In 2022, Omega refreshes the Speedmaster ’57 for the modern era with a slimmer, sleeker look and more powerful performance to appeal to a new generation of fast-paced fans. The new collection features eight new stainless steel models, all backed by the Omega Master Chronometer 9906.
The use of a manual winding movement allows for a thinner case and finer bezel, giving the new 57 watch a streamlined look. There is a version with a black “sandwich” dial with hanging hour-markers filled with antique Super-LumiNova – and three versions with PVD dials, in blue, green and a polished new burgundy. The entire collection is offered with stainless steel bracelets or matching colored leather straps.
At just 12.99mm thick, the new Model 57 is slimmer than its cousin, the Speedmaster Moonwatch 3861 at 13.58mm. Of course, space history is always allowed in Speedmaster. The bracelet in the steel version is inspired by the Apollo 11 tribute introduced in 2019 and is equipped with Omega’s patented ergonomic release adjustment system.
The splendor of moonshine
When it comes to case materials, Moonwatch fans are already spoiled for choice, with the current collection models available in steel, Sedna Gold and Canopus Gold. For 2022, Omega is taking its lunar inspiration to the next level with two new models in Moonshine Gold. One with a shiny gold-tone dial, black ceramic bezel, and black-lacquered sub-indices.
Another with a green PVD coated dial and a green ceramic bezel. To give enthusiasts a better choice, Omega offers two ways to fit their Moonshine Gold Moonwatch on the wrist: a matching 18k Gold Moonshine Gold bracelet or an integrated black rubber strap and Moonshine Gold clasp with moonlike patterns on the back. All new models are powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Caliber 3861.

Created in 2019, Moonshine Gold is an 18k yellow gold alloy inspired by moonlight shining in a deep blue sky. It offers a much paler color than 18k yellow gold and offers greater resistance to brilliant fading over time.
