The cumulative number of infected people exceeded 1,000 within a month after Omicron, a new mutant virus of Corona 19, was introduced into Korea.
The Central Defense Response Headquarters (Bangdaebon) announced that as of 00:00 on the 1st, 220 additional cases of Omicron mutation were confirmed, bringing the total number of infected people to 1,114.
Five people, including a couple, acquaintances, and two other overseas travelers who returned from a visit to Nigeria on the 1st of last month, were confirmed as the first infected with Omicron, and the number of infected people exceeded 1,000 within a month.
Of the new infections, 94 were imported from abroad and 126 were domestic (local infections).

Details such as the route of infection and the region of occurrence of domestic infections were not confirmed.

In Korea, the number of infected people imported from overseas, as well as those infected in the community whose route of infection is unknown, is rapidly increasing, suggesting that Omicron’s emergence as a dominant species is only a matter of time.
Park Young-joon, head of the epidemiological investigation team for Bang Dae-bon, said, “We believe that the infection is spreading to some extent in the local community.”
A total of 24 cases of suspected infection and transmission of Omicron’s nth were officially confirmed until the previous day.
Of the 1,114 cumulative Omicron infections, 541 were domestically infected and 573 were imported.
