From the presentation on the back cover of the book:

Every human society needs a mechanism for producing and distributing its goods. Humanity has so far devised only three such mechanisms: the system of tradition, the system of central planning, and the market system. The first two, individually or together, have sustained humanity for thousands of years; the third is a recent invention – an “experiment in progress”.

The “capitalist experiment” has given human society three unprecedented characteristics: first, the emergence of individual profit as the dominant motive of human behavior; second, the commodification of work, Nature and money; and third, the adjustment of social relations and institutions to market demands. Can such a society survive in the long run? Will capitalism last? The question has occupied all the great economists of the last two and a half centuries, from Marx and Polanyi to Keynes and Schumpeter• and all without exception (though for different reasons each) answered in the negative.

The capitalist system has finally collapsed. His successive seizures over the past fifty years—crises that are constantly mutating, shifting, and escalating—are like death convulsions. So is capitalism really coming to an end? The modern capitalist system suffers from seven serious diseases, potentially fatal: a) declining growth rates, b) extreme economic inequality, c) continuous and worsening crises, d) excessive public and private debt, e) imbalance between the financial sector and “ real economy”, f) monopolization tendencies of the economy and g) economic corruption. How can we cure these diseases? Bypassing conventional and well-said solutions, I would like to submit here a new, bold proposal.
