On the occasion of the death of Fritz Wepper, Crime + Investigation is changing its program and will show an episode of the self-produced true crime series “Protocols of Evil” on Thursday, March 28th at 6:10 p.m. and 11:35 p.m., in which Wepper is a played a German serial killer. “Portraying this murderer and psychopath is one of the greatest challenges of my acting career to date,” said Fritz Wepper on the occasion of filming the sensational documentary project in 2016. “Fritz Wepper plays the beast” is already available on demand via Crime + Investigation Play (on Amazon, YouTube, Apple and ScreenHits TV).

“Portraying this murderer and psychopath is one of the greatest challenges of my acting career to date,” said Fritz Wepper about the role of relationship murderer Joachim Stein (perpetrator’s name changed) on the occasion of the TV premiere of the sensational documentary project in 2016. “His actions are among the worst that humans are capable of. No author I know is capable of presenting such authentic and incredible material.”

The focus of “Protocols of Evil” is on interviews with German serial killers that the Düsseldorf profiler, criminologist and author Stephan Harbort conducted in correctional facilities and psychiatric facilities in order to find out why people become murderers. In each episode of the format, one of Harbort’s conversations is recreated, while on a further narrative level the crime patterns and motivations of the individual murderers are analyzed from a criminological and psychological perspective. While Harbort remains in his role of criminalist and interviewer, TV and film stars play the killers. Michaela May, Uwe Ochsenknecht, Sven Martinek and Detlef Bothe appeared in further episodes of the format. The content of the interviews between Stephan Harbort and the serial killers, staged as a chamber play, is the social history of the perpetrators, their emotional state during the crimes and their possible view of remorse and guilt.
