On the 24th, the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday, some flights and ships were canceled due to cold waves and strong winds, which hindered the return of citizens.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, 162 out of 234 flights scheduled to leave Jeju Airport that day were canceled in advance.
Korean Air will suspend all 44 flights from Jeju to Gimpo, Busan, Cheongju, and Gwangju on this day. Jeju Air also decided to cancel 40 flights departing and arriving before 3 p.m.
The Jeju Regional Aviation Administration and the Airport Corporation operated an emergency response system due to heavy snow and strong winds at Jeju Airport, and additionally dispatched guides for passengers visiting the airport to change flights.
On this day, due to bad weather, passenger ship operations were also restricted on 9 out of 14 routes connecting Incheon and the island. As a result, 11 passenger ships traveling between Incheon and Baengnyeong Island, Incheon and Yeonpyeong Island, and Incheon and Deokjeok Island were suspended.
Three passenger ships on the route between Sammok and Jangbong on Yeongjong Island will be closed on this day, and the operation of four passenger ships on the route between Hari and Seogeom on Ganghwa Island will depend on weather conditions.
The Incheon Regional Office of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries initially expected that 3,500 people would travel between Incheon and the island using passenger boats and pilot boats on the 24th.
According to the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority’s Incheon Flight Center, as of 6:35 a.m. on the same day, high waves of 3 to 5 meters and strong winds of 12 to 18 meters per second are blowing in the coastal and distant waters of Incheon, where a storm warning was issued.
Passenger ships on eight routes connecting Jeju, Mokpo, Jindo, Wando, and Yeosu were also canceled in advance.
