Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi denies intending to use goalkeeper Andre Onana as a starter in Champions League matches.
Speaking to Italian channel Sky Sport Italia ahead of the Champions League group stage game once morest Viktoria Plzen, the coach stressed that competition is open between Onana and Handanovic for tomorrow’s game and in general.
Onana made his debut as the Nerazzurri entered the Champions League group stage once morest Bayern Munich last week. Despite a good game, Handanovic made his return to the starting XI for Saturday’s Serie A game once morest Torino.
This has led to some speculation that there may be a plan in place to alternate between the two keepers. One playing in the league and the other in Europe. This implies that Onana will therefore start on Tuesday. But Inzaghi said that is by no means the case.
Asked if the Cameroonian is the main goalkeeper in Europe, Simone Inzaghi replied: “Absolutely not. Now, regarding the goalkeeper, I’ve made my choice but haven’t communicated it to the guys yet. I will choose tomorrow (Tuesday, editor’s note). »
“Onana is an important resource that we can call upon. Like many other players who are not always starters. But who can still do a lot for us,” he added.
