One Hundred Years of Solitude Season 2: Release Date, Cast & Trailer

Netflix has confirmed that Part 2 of its sweeping adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude will premiere on August 5, 2026, bringing the multi-generational Buendía family saga and its mythical town of Macondo to a close more than a year after the first chapter launched.

The streaming service outlined a two-tier release schedule for the final chapter, echoing the rollout strategy used for the series’ debut season in December 2024. According to Netflix, the first seven episodes of Part 2 will drop simultaneously on August 5, 2026. The series finale will then premiere separately on August 26, 2026, playing out as a cinematic, near two-hour standalone send-off that departs from standard episodic running times.

Economic Impact and Special Screenings

Beyond its digital release, the production has anchored a massive footprint in Colombia’s creative economy. According to Netflix data cited by Fiction Horizon, the adaptation has contributed over 54 billion dollars to the country’s economy, underscoring its weight beyond the cultural realm. To mark the final chapter, special standalone theatrical screenings—akin to premieres rather than commercial theatrical runs—are slated for select cities across Colombia in partnership with the national promotional entity Proimágenes.

Plot and Story Direction

Adapting the final fifty years of Gabriel García Márquez’s 1967 Nobel Prize-winning masterpiece, the second season picks up immediately where the first installment concluded. According to the official synopsis, peace still evades Macondo following the armistice and the signing of the treaty of Neerlandia.

The Conservatives, wary of the threats posed by Colonel Aureliano Buendía, plot an assault that inadvertently brings Fernanda del Carpio from Bogotá to the town. Her marriage to Aureliano Segundo—one of the untamable twin sons of the bastard Arcadio—provides Úrsula Iguarán with her first legitimate heirs.

Meanwhile, the other twin, José Arcadio Segundo, becomes absorbed in the manuscripts left behind by José Arcadio Buendía, ultimately fulfilling the patriarch’s ambitions to connect Macondo with the outside world. The arrival of the railroad paves the way for the banana company, triggering the town’s eventual downfall and fulfilling Úrsula Iguarán’s curse that lineages condemned to a century of solitude would not receive a second chance on earth.

Cast and Production Team

Several principal cast members from the first chapter return for the concluding run. The roster of confirmed actors features Emiliano Pernía as Aureliano José, Obeida Benavides as Pilar Ternera, Martha Karina Hurtado as Rebeca Buendía, María Adelaida Puerta as Amaranta Buendía, Julián Román and Jorge Quintero as José Arcadio Segundo and Aureliano Segundo, Marleyda Soto as Úrsula Iguarán, and Claudio Cataño as Aureliano Buendía.
