Study finds even moderate alcohol consumption poses health risks
Published in the Endocrine Society’s Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, a study shows that even following the recommendations of the Government about alcohol consumption, the risk of developing obesity or type 2 diabetes are present.
Therefore 408,540 people participated in this study. The researchers assessed each person’s self-reported data on their alcohol consumption.
They found that people who drank more than 14 drinks per week had higher body fat and a higher risk of type 2 diabetes and obesity: “The MRI results suggest that there may not be protective effects of modest alcohol consumption on obesity traits and type 2 diabetes. Heavy drinking could lead to increased obesity measures as well as an increased risk of type 2 diabetes.”
