As the One UI 9 rollout progresses across flagship devices, Samsung is bringing four major Galaxy AI capabilities—previously launched on the Galaxy S26 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Flip 8—to existing hardware like the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7. These additions span manual video processing, predictive keyboard nudges, and intelligent call screening tools.
My FanCam Brings Object Tracking to Legacy Video Footage
The first major feature, My FanCam, tackles a common consumer problem: capturing a wide-angle video at a crowded event like a football match or a concert, only to find the actual subject lost in the frame.
Users tap the Galaxy AI icon while viewing a video, select the feature, and let the on-device NPU scan the clip for human subjects. Once the system highlights detected individuals, picking a target subject prompts the algorithm to dynamically crop, pan, and maintain that person dead-center in either portrait or landscape orientation at a chosen aspect ratio.
It is an efficient pipeline. However, real-world execution depends heavily on source material clarity. If the initial scan fails to detect anyone, users must scrub the seek bar to a frame where subjects are fully visible before initiating the tracking sequence.
Granular Personalization Through Now Brief Custom Cards
Samsung is also expanding Now Brief, the contextual dashboard that surfaces predictive cards throughout the day. With One UI 9, users gain the ability to construct up to three custom cards tailored to specific telemetry and data points.
Instead of relying entirely on pre-baked widgets, users can select from weather, health, and video categories, or input custom text prompts describing precisely what data they want surfaced. A health card, for example, can be configured to display weekly running activity, step counts, or an Energy Score at designated days and times.
There are guardrails. Samsung enforces a strict daily generation and edit limit on custom cards. Hit that ceiling, and you are locked out of modifying your dashboard configuration until the next calendar day.
Now Nudge Minimizes Context Switching in the Keyboard UI
Productivity micro-friction is the primary target for Now Nudge. Integrated directly into the Samsung Keyboard, this feature analyzes active screen context to surface contextual shortcuts without taking over the device or executing actions autonomously.
If an incoming message asks for vacation photos, Now Nudge evaluates the screen state and surfaces a direct shortcut to the relevant images in the Gallery app. If a chat mentions an upcoming meetup, it cross-references the Calendar app to help flag potential scheduling conflicts.
This approach reduces the cognitive load of app-switching. You tap the suggestion to accept it, or you simply ignore it and keep typing.
Call Brief Pulls Calendar Data and Time Zones Directly to the Call Screen
Rounding out the suite is Call Brief, a feature housed within the Galaxy AI Call Assist portfolio. Designed to surface contextual data during active phone calls, it functions less as a rolling conversation transcript and more as a dynamic information card.
When calling a contact with a stored calendar event, Call Brief automatically displays that event as a shared entry directly on the active call screen. For international numbers, it surfaces the recipient’s local time zone and physical location.
According to device settings configuration paths, Call Brief is disabled by default and requires both manual activation via Settings > Galaxy AI > Call assist > Call brief and the enablement of Personal Data Intelligence. Notably, hardware segmentation applies here: the feature is absent on the Galaxy S25 FE.
The 30-Second Verdict on One UI 9’s AI Expansion
These four features occupy very different operational tiers. My FanCam is an active editing utility; Now Nudge and Call Brief operate reactively in the background; custom cards sit in the middle as user-defined dashboard elements.
Because their utility is entirely situational, users may not invoke every tool daily. Yet, when matched with the right workflow or event, they eliminate repetitive navigation steps and streamline device interaction across Samsung’s ecosystem.
