Only 16 Korean companies in the Fortune Global 500… 136 in China

1 in the US in total sales… FKI “Executive Director of Korean Companies in New Industries”

It was found that there are only 16 Korean companies in the ‘2022 Fortune Global 500’ (Global 500), which is ranked by the annual sales of companies around the world by Fortune magazine in the United States.

The Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) announced on the 22nd that, as a result of analyzing the status of each country in the Global 500, Korea was less competitive than major countries in terms of not only the number of global companies, but also sales and industry sectors.

In the Global 500, Chinese companies accounted for the most with 136 (27.2%).

US companies followed with 124 (24.8%), with US and Chinese companies accounting for more than half.

Japanese companies accounted for 47 companies (9.4%), Germany 28 companies (5.6%), France 25 companies (5.0%), and the United Kingdom 18 companies (3.6%).

There were 16 Korean companies, accounting for 3.2%.

Looking at the sales by country of the companies selected in the Global 500, the total sales of US companies were $11.2 trillion, surpassing the total sales of Chinese companies ($11 trillion).

Total sales of Korean companies were $996.2 billion, smaller than those of Japan, Germany, France and the United Kingdom.

Of the 21 sectors classified in the Global 500, companies are distributed in 19 sectors in the US, 15 in China, 13 each in Japan and France, 11 in Germany, and 8 in the UK.

Korean companies were listed in eight industries: electronics/semiconductors, finance, automobiles, energy, materials/materials, general trading companies, food & beverages, and chemicals.

It has been investigated that there are no Korean companies that have entered new industries such as aerospace, aerospace, and healthcare.

Since 2015, when Fortune started classifying by industry, Korean companies have been maintaining 6 to 8 industries every year.

“It is very unfortunate that it is difficult to find successful companies in the new industry field,” said Yoo Hwan-ik, head of the industry headquarters of the FKI.
