Liverpool fans lamented the departure of Senegalese striker Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich last month, after the team stumbled in its first two Premier League games with a draw.
Liverpool tied with rookie Fulham 2-2 in the first round, as well as with Crystal Palace at “Anfield” on Monday, as it is ranked 12th in the Premier League club standings.
Liverpool fans took to Twitter to express their lack of the Senegalese star, as one of them wrote: If Mane was present, he would have done something in these two matches, the players will miss him and Liverpool will suffer because of that in the future.
Another indicated: No one will talk about the impact of the absence of the star Sadio Mane on Liverpool, and a third wrote: Liverpool misses Mane a lot, he was wonderful with and without the ball, while the fourth was more ironic, as he wrote: If you ever feel useless, remember that Liverpool decided to sell Sadio Mane And replace him with Darwin Nunez.
Opinions differed about Darwin Nunez, the most expensive player in Liverpool’s history, as he scored a goal in the first match against Fulham, but was sent off in the second match after headbutting Joachim Andersen, Crystal Palace defender.
Former Manchester United player Gareth Crooks agreed with what the Liverpool fans had said, and wrote in his column in the BBC: It is too early to judge Darwin Nunez, but certainly the effectiveness and goals that Mane has provided to Liverpool over the years is difficult to compensate.
Mane played 269 games for Liverpool between 2016 and 2022, scoring 120 goals and providing 94 assists, and helped the team win the English Premier League, the European Champions League, the European Super Cup, the Club World Cup, the League and Federation Cups.
With Bayern, Mane scored two goals in his first match with the Bavarian team, when the latter swept Eintracht Frankfurt 6-1 on the first day of the league competition.
