Former President Donald Trump criticized Prince Harry on Monday, stating the Duke of Sussex “is not speaking for the UK” after Harry’s recent visit to Ukraine where he commented on the U.S. Administration’s approach to the war.
Trump made the remarks during a press briefing at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, responding to questions about Harry’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and comments made during the visit regarding American support for Kyiv. Trump said Harry had no authority to represent British views on international affairs, particularly concerning U.S. Policy.
The Duke of Sussex visited Kyiv last week amid ongoing diplomatic discussions about Western support for Ukraine. During his trip, Harry met with Zelenskyy and visited military rehabilitation centers, later describing the U.S. Role in the conflict as “crucial” but urging sustained commitment from Western allies.
Buckingham Palace has not commented on Harry’s remarks or Trump’s response. The Prince’s office previously stated that his visit was made in a personal capacity and did not involve formal representation of the British monarchy or government.
Trump’s criticism adds to a history of public tension between the former president and the Duke of Sussex, dating back to Harry and Meghan Markle’s departure from royal duties and their subsequent critiques of British media and institutions.
The White House has not responded to Trump’s comments regarding Harry’s Ukraine visit or the former president’s assertion about the Duke’s authority to speak on UK positions.
