Ontario’s Wonderbrands closes the Gadoua plant in Napierville

The Gadoua sliced bread factory in Napierville, where the bakery bearing the same name was born, will close its doors in the coming months.

The news, first reported by the media Coup d’oeil, was confirmed at Journal by the prefect of the MRC des Jardins-de-Napierville still in shock.

“We had a call on January 12. It is sure that it is a big disappointment” lamented Yves Boyer.

“The Gadoua Family is still in Napierville. It deeply touches me. We all have someone who works at Gadoua. It touches us. We were attached to the company, ”he said.

Founded in 1911 by Wilfrid Gadoua, the bakery was sold to Weston, then to Wonderbrands.

As soon as he learned the bad news, the prefect Yves Boyer called on the deputy and the mayor to try to find out more about the fate reserved for the hundreds of workers in the area.

“I want to have an exchange with the company to see with them if there is a possibility of backtracking or if everything is decided in advance,” he continued.

Gadoua’s Ontario parent company, Wonderbrands, did not respond to our interview requests Monday morning.
