When Elisa Länger* woke up on a Saturday a few years ago, everything was suddenly different. “Suddenly overnight I couldn’t hear anything in one ear,” she says. She spoke on the phone that morning but didn’t understand anything. “I turned the phone up, still nothing.” When she held the phone to her other ear, she heard everything. What followed was a nerve-wracking hospital visit. She was actually supposed to stay in the hospital for a week.
