OÖN garden election: “This garden makes us happy”

A grand entrance for what is probably the smallest garden that has ever taken part in the OÖN terraced house garden competition. Gabriele (63) and Hubert (63) Steinmeir-Feldmayr in Pichling have planted so much on just under 200 square meters that you would think you were in a botanical garden.

There is a small biotope with three koi, a stream with a wooden bridge over it, narrow paths with gravel, sculptures from which plants grow and raised beds with lettuce, cucumbers and chili. “I am the woman with the green thumb, my husband is responsible for the rough work,” says the amateur gardener. When we visit, the daylilies, roses, hydrangeas and coneflowers are in bloom, the trees are bearing apples, pears, figs and kiwis, the bushes are bearing currants and raspberries. The schnapps made from the first fruits has already been made, and the vegetables are regularly cooked.
