ALGIERS – The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sonatrach group, Toufik Hakkar affirmed, Monday in Algiers, that the agreement signed between the Algerian Petroleum Institute (IAP) under the Group and the Organization of Arab Countries oil exporters (OPAEP) aimed to intensify cooperation in the training of Arab executives in Algeria in the field of energy.
During the signing ceremony, Mr. Hakkar underlined that this step was able to allow the two parties to work together in the training of executives of OAPEC member companies. Mr. Hakkar also noted that this agreement crowns the successful IPA conferences.
“This agreement will make it possible to exchange the expertise and experiences of Arab countries within OAPEC, and establishes the new orientation of the Organization aimed at anchoring this cooperation and promoting Arab action, particularly in the fields of energy and oil,” he added.
The Secretary General (SG) of OAPEC, Djamel Aissa Al Loughani, for his part, considered that training is “a key factor” for the development of skills and know-how in the field of energy.
Mr. Al Loughani also highlighted IAP’s “long experience” in training in the field of hydrocarbons, while being “the first to respond to OAPEP’s call for coordination in the field of training”.
The DG of the IAP, Abdelkader Guenoune affirmed, for his part, that the agreement concluded will allow the improvement of human resources in the countries of the OAPEC.
He also indicated that the Institute had, among other missions, the creation of spaces for scientific and technical communication, so that the program between the IAP and the OPAEP provides for training, conferences and workshops.
On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, Prizes were awarded to the winners of the 2020 scientific competition, organized by OAPEP with the aim of encouraging scientific research and innovation, namely: Dr Laid Koriche of University of Jijel and Dr. Mohamed Boucena of the University of Oum El Bouaghi, with regard to their research on the environmental and economic effects of natural gas flaring.
Dr. Amel Tabani from the University of Algiers was also honored for her research on the application of carbon pricing mechanisms.
On this occasion, the SG of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Abdelkrim Aouissi affirmed that the annual prize of the OAPEP “is of great importance for the Algerian researchers who participate in it each year, with themes and scientific theses in the field of hydrocarbons and energy through many research centers and universities at the national level”.
The research presented by the winners is just as important, because it deals with current issues related to the environment, and falls within the framework of international conventions ratified in particular by Algeria, on climate change, he added. he concluded.
