With the exception of the legally required brief instructions, there will no longer be hundreds of pages of operating instructions when buying a new car from Opel. The brand is transitioning vehicle manuals from paper to digital. Last but not least, the change also has environmental reasons. The so-called Quick Guide also has a QR code that customers can use to access the digital, complete operating instructions for their model easily, quickly and practically.
The folder containing the operating manuals for each Opel model and the infotainment system is already made of environmentally friendly material. So far, there have been around 500 pages of operating and infotainment instructions and a service booklet per car. With immediate effect, the scope of the brief instructions and service booklet is reduced to just under 70 printed pages – a paper saving of over 80 percent. Extrapolated to the vehicle and the corresponding production of operating instructions, the printing requirements at Opel alone are reduced by hundreds of millions of pages per year.
With the new solution, Opel not only meets the desire of many customers for “less paper” in the car, but also the way to and the handling of the operating instructions is even easier thanks to the Quick Guide with QR code. All information is available online at any time and, above all, from anywhere. In addition, the complete operating instructions, including the infotainment description, can also be downloaded as PDFs to your home PC, laptop or tablet if required. The link to the instructions will soon also be available in the “My Opel” app. And if you still want a printed full version, you can order it from your Opel dealer.
In addition, short videos that can be played on the infotainment screen in models such as the new Opel Astra provide valuable tips on how individual driver assistance systems work. A small side effect of the change: in future there will be more space in the glove compartment. (awm)
