Oppenheimer Steams Toward Oscar Glory at 2024 Producers Guild of America Awards

On Sunday night, the 2024 Producers Guild of America Awards took place, and it was a significant one for the film “Oppenheimer.” Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film claimed the top prize of the night – the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, often considered a precursor to winning the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Emma Thomas, Chuck Roven, and their producing team were thrilled to receive the prestigious award. Thomas specifically highlighted Nolan’s exceptional skills as a producer, stating, “He’s absolutely brilliant; we’ve worked on 12 films now.”

Interestingly, despite previous nominations, Nolan and Thomas had never won the Zanuck award before. Nolan expressed gratitude for the support they received from the industry, saying, “Every time we’ve been in this room, we’ve felt so much support.”

“The Bear,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” and “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” Among Other Winners

In addition to “Oppenheimer,” several other productions received recognition at the 2024 Producers Guild of America Awards. Hulu’s “The Bear” won the Danny Thomas Award for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Comedy Series, while “RuPaul’s Drag Race” took home the award for best competition series producing. “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” was also celebrated as the top show in the variety category.

The ceremony also featured career achievement awards, with producer Gail Berman receiving a tribute from Sarah Michelle Gellar. Berman, known for creating the iconic character Buffy the Vampire Slayer, dedicated her award to those who supported her throughout her journey.

Another notable recognition went to Charles D. King, who received the PGA Milestone Award for his contributions as a trailblazing Black talent agency honcho turned content CEO. King honored the incredible producers, executives, and his ancestors who paved the way for his success.
