▲ No smoking or drinking without warning! A Hong Kong man was accidentally injured and exposed terminal lung cancer. He was optimistic about fighting cancer for 8 years without recurrence.

Regular checkups are very important. The 66-year-old Mr. Liu has always been in good health, but in 2013 he was injured in an accident and went to the doctor. He was found to be suffering from terminal lung cancer.

Most recent video:

The doctor in charge and clinical oncologist Zhang Wenlong was interviewed by TOPick and said that Mr. Liu sought medical treatment in 2013 and was found to have a 2.5 cm primary tumor in the left upper lobe. He was diagnosed with stage 3A non-small cell lung cancer, and the cancer cells had even shown signs of spreading. . And Mr. Liu also recalled that before he was diagnosed with cancer, he did not smoke or drink, and did not feel any physical discomfort. big problem. The reason why I knew I had cancer was because I was injured by a ball while passing by a stadium. After going to the hospital for an examination, it was accidentally revealed that I was already in the terminal stage of lung cancer.

Optimism against cancer

After learning that he had terminal lung cancer, Mr. Liu did not feel very hopeless:

If you know that you will be treated, you will do it; if you know it, you will be treated as soon as possible, so you will be more optimistic, you will not think about it, you will not complain, and you will treat it with a normal mind.

He also told his family frankly and directly about his illness, except for his elderly mother. Mr. Liu has no children, so only his wife accompanied him silently during the treatment period. Mr. Liu said that his wife never acted too nervous, which added to his pressure. He said with a smile that maybe it was because of his positive attitude in fighting cancer that he also infected his wife:

In fact, the reaction of your family members can be seen through your own performance. I acted relaxed so my family wouldn’t be too nervous. The most important thing is that you know how to relax during the treatment, cheer yourself up, and take care of yourself as independently as possible. For me, as long as it does not affect the emotions of family members and people around me, it will help alleviate their caregiving pressure.

Bravely overcome recurrence in case of recurrence during treatment

Mr. Liu continued to make follow-up visits until March 2015, when Mr. Liu was found to have cancer cells spreading in his left adrenal gland. The doctor cut the tissue and tested it to confirm that it was in the same liquid state as the primary tumor, and the recurrence was stage 4, non-small cell carcinoma. In order to prevent further spread of cancer cells, Dr. Zhang Wenlong performed left upper nephrectomy for Mr. Liu, followed by breathing control and electrotherapy. At the same time, the doctor gave Mr. Liu 2 times before radiotherapy and 2 times after radiotherapy, a total of 4 times of chemotherapy. At the end of the course of treatment, the doctor did a physical examination for Mr. Liu, and found no further spread of cancer cells.

Mr. Liu recalled that when he started chemotherapy, he thought that the side effects of the drug were very serious, but the response was better than expected. It was not as hard as he imagined, and the treatment effect was more immediate:

I feel more comfortable when walking and exercising, and there is no such reaction as vomiting as others said.

Mr. Liu also recalled that during this period, although his wife did not do anything special to encourage him, Mr. Liu spent every day with his wife’s silent care, company and support. In this regard, he thanked his wife for her perseverance and said, “I feel very lucky.”

Cancer cured so far without recurrence

Until January 2021, Mr. Liu was found to have a new tumor in his right lung. However, due to early detection, the tumor still belonged to stage 1A, and it was cured after the doctor surgically removed it. Since then, Mr. Liu has recovered well, and he can go back and forth to the hospital regularly for follow-up visits and take medicine. So far, his condition is stable and there is no recurrence of cancer. After this battle, Mr. Liu emphasized that fighting cancer is not terrible, as long as you cooperate with the doctor, be yourself, and live a normal life as before the illness; at the same time, he advised everyone to “do a detailed physical examination every year.”
