The fact that there is a correlation between oral health and systemic diseases such as diabetes has now been well studied and proven. However, this knowledge has not yet sufficiently reached patients. It is often not even known that bleeding gums can be a sign of inflammatory gum disease. Considering the fact that eight out of ten people over the age of 35 suffer from gum disease, it stands to reason that there is an increased risk and that patients need antibacterial substances in oral and dental care products in addition to mechanical cleaning. The GUM® PAROEX® range is specially tailored to professional plaque control for optimal oral health – not just for diabetes patients.

Chronic inflammatory diseases often fuel each other. This is also the case with diabetes mellitus and periodontitis. Chronic systemic inflammation increases the risk of gum disease. Conversely, periodontitis can cause secondary diseases in diabetes patients1,2. It has been shown that the double inflammatory burden can lead, among other things, to a higher risk of stroke, a higher severity of retinopathy and a significantly increased risk of mortality due to cardiological or nephrological complications1,3,4. It shouldn’t come to that. However, gingivitis and periodontitis are widespread in the population: up to 90% of the world’s population suffers from gingivitis, and around half of adults are affected by periodontitis5. Therefore – not only for patients with systemic diseases – special attention should be paid to intensive plaque control and prevention of inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity.

Optimized oral hygiene from A to Z

The GUM® PAROEX® range offers the right product for every need. The GUM® PAROEX® 0.12% tooth gel and the drug PAROEX® 1.2 mg/ml mouthwash are available for intensive care for existing gum problems. The GUM PAROEX products combine the clinically proven effectiveness of chlorhexidine (CHX) with cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), thus providing a dual-active antibacterial protection system against bacteria and their endotoxins. The tooth gel contains 0.12% CHX and 0.05% CPC. Vitamin E, aloe vera and provitamin B5 also soothe and revitalize the gums. An interval 2-week treatment helps to get gingivitis and periodontitis under control again. The PAROEX 1.2mg/ml mouthwash contains antiseptically effective CHX in a concentration of 0.12%.

For long-term care and professional plaque control, GUM® PAROEX® 0.06% toothpaste and GUM® PAROEX® 0.06% mouthwash are available. The combination of 0.06% CHX and 0.05% CPC in the toothpaste, together with 1,450 ppm fluoride from sodium fluoride, ensure effective cleaning at the first signs of gingivitis and remineralization of tooth enamel. Mouthwash promotes long-term protection against gum problems.

Not only effective for diabetics

Effective periodontal therapy has been proven to have a significant impact on metabolic control in patients with diabetes and reduces the risk of diabetic complications6,7. But it’s not just them who need professional plaque control – all patients benefit from optimized gum health.
