Orange alert from the SMN for this Sunday in the Capital and suburbs: “Strong storms”

This was announced this Sunday by the National Meteorological Service (SMN), issuing a storm alert that “can be locally intense” in the city of Buenos Aires and for the entire Buenos Aires suburbs.

“Probability of showers in the morning and strong storms in the afternoon, an estimated temperature of 23 degrees of minimum and 31 of maximum, and winds from the north rotating to the south and southeast”, indicated the report, with its usual laconic language, which also highlighted that the bad weather will extend to Monday, which will also have isolated storms and showers, although with less intensity. For tomorrow the estimated temperature is a minimum of 21 degrees and a maximum of 26 degrees, a huge relief compared to a few days ago, when the series of days with thermals above 35 degrees turned the entire country into a gigantic microwave.

For Tuesday, meanwhile, the sky will be mostly cloudy and the temperature will be even more pleasant: a minimum of 20 degrees and a maximum of 24 degrees.

With respect to this Sunday, the orange alert issued by the SMN indicates that the storms will be in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA)he suburbanand for sectors of the northeast, center and southeast of the province of Buenos Aires.

According to experts, in this huge area the rainfall “expected to be locally strong or severe”.

Within this framework, the agency warned that “they will be accompanied by very intense gusts of wind, occasional hail fall, very strong electrical activity and abundant waterfall in short periods”.

In some areas of the province of Buenos Aires, storms are expected this morning, while in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) the alert is in effect especially for the afternoon. “Accumulated precipitation values ​​between 70 and 90 mm are expected, and may be exceeded locally”added the SMN.

The yellow alert means that “weather phenomena with the capacity of damage and risk of momentary interruption of daily activities“.
