Thiruvananthapuram ∙ Chance of heavy rain at isolated places in the state till tomorrow. Orange alert has been announced in 9 districts today and 3 districts tomorrow due to heavy rainfall. Rainfall of up to 20 cm is likely in these districts.

A cyclonic system is likely to form over the central-east Bay of Bengal today and intensify into a low pressure during 48 hours. Therefore, the forecast of the Central Meteorological Department is that there is a possibility of widespread rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places till Saturday.

A cyclonic circulation is already existing over the Kanyakumari region and nearby Maldives region. In this situation, fishing was banned in the Kerala-Lakshadweep-Karnataka coasts till the next day. KSEB declared red alert in 9 dams. 5 of these are in Idukki.
