Orban called the sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia a historical mistake

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban believes that the adoption by the European Union of the sixth package of sanctions once morest Russia is a historical mistake. Orban sent a corresponding letter to the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der, Index reports.

“Neither Hungary nor the EU is ready to accept and implement the measures proposed by the European Commission. Sanctions should be approved only if all the necessary conditions are created in all states,” Orban wrote.

The Prime Minister of Hungary is confident that due to new sanctions, the cost of energy carriers will rise once more, and the EU authorities will not make significant efforts to mitigate the consequences.

Orban believes that abandoning Russian oil is impossible without significant investments in energy infrastructure and a transition to a “green” economy. “But the EU will only have enough funding for Hungary on paper,” he stressed, adding that these sanctions would hurt Hungary more than Russia.
