Order to return Rs 3.11 crore stolen from foreign woman

Abu Dhabi ∙ The Abu Dhabi Civil Court has ordered the return of 14 lakh dirhams (Rs 3.11 crores) extorted from a foreign woman on the promise of marriage. Two women and one man had communicated with the complainant and extorted money under the pretense of being on behalf of a person living in Abu Dhabi.

A fake e-mail account was created in the name of the man. After sending the requested amount for the wedding preparations through the bank account, the communication stopped and it was realized that he was cheated. Then the woman approached the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court. The defendants were sentenced to 3 months in prison and the foreigner male was sentenced to deportation.

Then he approached the civil court demanding to collect 14 lakh dirhams. The court also ordered to pay 20,000 dirhams as costs and compensation.
