André Barrieu was a textile designer for Maison Abraham, in Switzerland, who imagined patterns for haute couture houses in France, notably Yves Saint Laurent. Parts priced at affordable prices this Sunday at the Varye estate, in Saint-Doulchard.

They will start at around 60 euros for these designs, also silk scarves signed Yves Saint Laurent. This should attract people. “These are black and white inks or colored inks, specifies Christian Sicard, consultant for the auction house Lebrech et Associés. It’s often very colorful and evokes the tone of the 60s or 70s in particular. We have made small estimates because there’s no real rating on this sort of thing. These are original works but they are not by the hand of Yves Saint Laurent. They are signed André Barrieu. We put estimates as if they were works leaving the workshop.”

Drawings imagined by André Barrieu between 1960 and 1995. The creator was inspired by artists like Matisse, Braque, Mondrian. “For Mr Saint Laurent, it was important for women who could not afford haute couture to offer a range of accessories to popularize the house: scarves, jewelry and perfume of course. adds Christian Sicard.

André Barrieu was able to recover all of this fund when the Abraham house closed in the mid-90s. The sale took place in Saint-Doulchard, thanks to a volunteer from the Varye estate who had established relationships with Christian Sicard. There is no reserve price, auctions can also be done online. In April, a new sale will be organized. She will offer the designs imagined by André Barrieu, for the fabrics of Yves Saint Laurent dresses.
