Orrego shoots at insurers by GPS for cars: “How many more deaths do we have to wait for” | National

Once again, the metropolitan governor, Claudio Orrego, fired at vehicle insurers, accusing them of not providing GPS to car owners, which is mandatory by law.

The Governor of the Metropolitan Region, Claudio Orregoinsisted on Thursday in his complaint against vehicle insurers, for not complying with the so-called Ley Antiportonazo.

This is an initiative enacted in 2019, which requires insurers to deliver GPS to car owners so that they can be located in case of theft. However, this would not be being fulfilled, Orrego denounced.

It was last year that the authority reported this to the National Consumer Service (Sernac), so the agency launched an investigation in this regard.

Thus, in February 2022, a voluntary procedure was initiated with HDI, Sura and BCI Insurances, which account for 70% of the market, according to Orrego. After six months, HDI and Sura have not submitted a proposal for consumers and BCI continues with its open procedure.

Therefore, now the Sernac could even file class action lawsuits against insurers for failure to deliver GPS.

Given this, Orrego pointed out that “it is outrageous that companies earn money by circumventing the law and also putting people’s lives at risk.

The authority stressed that, during this 2022, Robberies with force to vehicles rose by 80% and 120% crimes against people. “That is very high, it should lead us all to concern and action,” he said.

Along with this, he assured that this year 14 people have died in crimes, which is not the fault of the insurers, but they should comply with the law so that people do not put their lives at risk if your vehicle is stolen

“On Saturday a person died in Conchalí for defending his vehicle. How many more deaths do we have to waithow many more injured, so that the companies comply with the law”, he added.
