Oscar-nominated American actor Bert Young has died at the age of 83
Veteran actor Bert Young, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in the famous “Rocky” film series, said that he died at the age of 83.
In the series, Young played the role of Rocky’s brother-in-law, whose character was played by well-known actor Sylvester Stallone.
On Wednesday, The New York Times published news of Young’s death on October 8 in Los Angeles, and Archyde.com verified the news from his manager, Linda Pinsky.
Young was born in Queens, New York, and joined the US Marine Corps, later studying at the Actor’s Studio under Lee Strasberg. He then set out to build his career in the world of acting, usually portraying the roles of strong characters and Americans of Italian descent in cinema and television.
His most famous work was his role in the 1976 movie “Rocky,” in which he played the character of Paulie Benigno, the alcoholic butcher and friend of the hero, Rocky Balboa.
Young was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Benigno in the “Rocky” film series.
His other works include the films “Chinatown,” “The Pope of Greenwich Village,” and “Once Upon a Time in America.” He also participated in a number of famous television series as a guest star, including “Baretta” and “Law and Order.”
