Otto Addo steps down as Ghana coach

The coach of the Ghana national football team, Otto Addo, has announced his departure following the elimination in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup on Friday against Uruguay (0-2).

Thus, Ghana finds itself again without a coach. After dismissing Milovan Rajevac in January following the CAN-2022 fiasco, the Black Stars had found their happiness with the interim Otto Addo.

Only, as had been anticipated for weeks, the technician announced his departure following the elimination in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup on Friday against Uruguay (0-2).

“I always said that if we qualify for the World Cup, I will resign afterwards, even if we were world champions. My family sees our future in Germany ”, recalled in a press conference the one who will therefore return to his role as assistant coach at Borussia Dortmund.

The departure of the former Ghanaian international will represent a heavy loss for his country. In the space of a few months, the 47-year-old has indeed taken over a selection at the bottom of the hole, which he managed to qualify for the World Cup by surprising Nigeria in the play-off (0-0, 1-1) .

And the quadruple African champions signed more than honorable performances in Qatar, with in particular a victory against South Korea (3-2) which gave them the hope of qualifying for the round of 16 until the last day.
