North Korea announced that its missile tests come as a “counter-measure” for the joint military exercises of the United States and South Korea in the region.
The North’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement, published by the North’s Korean Central News Agency, and reported by the South Korean “Yonhap” agency, at dawn on Thursday, that “the United States poses a serious threat to stability on the Korean Peninsula and its surroundings, by deploying an aircraft carrier in waters near Peninsula”.
North Korea strongly condemned the United States and its allies’ presentation of the North Korean missile test file for discussion in the UN Security Council, describing it as a “counter-measure” for the joint exercises of the United States and South Korea in the region.
This comes against the background of the entry of the US aircraft carrier “Ronald Reagan” into the waters near the coast of Korea, after Pyongyang launched a ballistic missile at dawn last Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the UN Security Council held a meeting to discuss Pyongyang’s latest missile test.
