A woman lost her life on Saturday after drowning in the Black River in Waltham, Outaouais.
The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. According to initial information from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), two women were descending the river on inflatable tubes, when one of them dropped an object in the water.
“She would then have jumped into the water without a life jacket in order to recover it and would have lost consciousness in the water,” said Nicolas Scholtus, spokesman for the SQ.
The victim, a 68-year-old woman, was then taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
An investigator has been assigned to the file to determine the circumstances surrounding this drowning.
